Economy

The economy of the Red Lake / Ear Falls area is largely based on the resource industries of mining, forestry, and tourism. Two gold mines located in Balmertown employ in excess of 750 workers while timber cutting and sawmill operations including the Intefor Timber in Ear Falls employ hundreds more. The towns of Red Lake and Ear Falls are also the jumping-off point for many tourists destined for one of over 100 outpost and resort locations scattered throughout the district. Service, retail, and government services provide the balance of the jobs within the region.
