Accessibility

Red Lake is accessible from the Trans-Canada Highway 180 Kilometres north of Vermilion Bay on Highway 105.   Highway 125 connects Balmertown and Cochenour to Highway 105 and Highway 618 connects Madsen and Starratt-Olsen to Hwy 125.

Surface Transportation 


Red Lake is accessible by snow machine via 35,000 km of groomed TOPS trails from virtually anywhere in Northwestern Ontario.

Truck transportation is provided by Gardewine North and Purolator Courier.

 

Air Transportation - Red Lake Airport

Red Lake has a 5,000-foot all-weather paved runway located at Cochenour, equipped with landing lights, tie-downs, and aviation fuel. A new terminal building built in 2011 for passengers is located at the airstrip. Scheduled air service is available through Bearskin Airways to points east and west.  Charters are available from numerous airways both at the airport and from floatplane bases at Cochenour and Red Lake.

Ferry Service

The Municipality of Red Lake maintains a ferry between the communities of Cochenour and McKenzie Island on Red Lake.  This service is pay-for-use and runs seasonally from May to November.  Trips are on the half-hour with a 15-minute crossing time.  Parking is available at the Cochenour Dock.
