significant aviation sector and a current boom in the mining industry, as well as vibrant aboriginal culture, this history is still strong today. The Red Lake Regional Heritage Centre showcases exhibits on the community's history and aboriginal heritage.

 Vibrant Economy

Red Lake has a very vibrant and bustling economy.  The local economy is based on mining, tourism and wood resources.  Balmertown is home to one of the world's richest gold mines, which is the area's largest employer.  The area is also home to many resorts and lodges, specializing in fishing, hunting or canoeing.  There has also been efforts to pursue value-added forestry.
