Northwestern Health Unit

The Northwestern Health Unit is a public health unit which serves the Kenora and Rainy River Districts.  The catchment area for the Northwestern Health Unit comprises approximately one-fifth of Ontario. The Health Unit runs a variety of programs in a wide range of areas, including Environmental Health which offers information sessions about food safety, private sewage disposal, emergency response, and safe water. The Family Services area offers services such as audiology, the Healthy Babies Healthy Children program, information about reproductive health, and dental services. The Health Promotion program offers information about chronic disease prevention, injury and substance abuse programs and others. The Health Protection part of the Health Unit offers  information and clinics about the control of infectious diseases, early detection of cancer, sexual health, and vaccine preventable diseases, as well as a Needle Exchange Program (NEP).
