Service Industry

The Red Lake and Ear Falls area supports a thriving retail and service industry.  From restaurants and grocery to clothing and home furnishings, area businesses supply the local and regional population with a wide range of goods and services.

Beyond the regular retail outlets the area also has a large government sector providing provincial services such as natural resources, northern development and mines, police (OPP), courts, family and social services etc.  Federal government services include the post offices and employment services.

Red Lake is a district hub for health and social services within the region including Ear Falls, and areas north.  There are currently over 300 full-time positions in this sector including 125 employed at the Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital.  With the expansion of roads north to first nations communities the expansion of social services could provide additional employment opportunities within the community.
